Johannesburg-Drivers were surprised to see the body of a man hanging under a bridge at N1 in Gauteng on Tuesday morning.
The Gauteng traffic police urged drivers to be careful on the N1 North highway and avoid the Polokwane direction area after a man committed suicide at 8 am on Tuesday.
Traffic police said the incident took place between the Petroport Garage and the Wallmansthal Bridge. Authorities said the suicide situation was unknown at this stage. A police investigation was underway.
Goteng traffic police spokesman Sello Maremane accused motorists of taking videos.
“The Gauteng traffic police condemn the reckless behavior of some drivers crossing the N1 highway, especially those taking pictures of the deceased. This behavior may be unfair and punishable by law enforcement agencies as the deceased’s family has not yet been notified.
“Everyone who views or circulates a picture will be faced with the utter fury of the law,” Maremane said.
Gauteng Police Spokesman Captain Marbella Masondo said the police received an anonymous phone call about the incident at around 6:30 am.
“The police went to the scene and called a paramedic who proved him dead. The investigation continues to determine motives,” he said.
Gauteng traffic police urged drivers to use alternative roads such as Sefako Makgatho Drive, Old Warmbaths and/or Bela-Bela Road.
Maremane said the site has not yet been cleared and a single lane is in use.
They need to clean N1’s leg, which the man hangs.
Otherwise we will see the fireworks
