Cough, fever, and runny nose are the most common symptoms of Sars-CoV-2 pathogen infection. However, the longer the corona pandemic lasts, the longer the list of symptoms. According to a recent Canadian study, gastrointestinal problems are more common than expected.
Corona has been our concern for almost a year. The course of the disease is not the same in all affected patients. Some have no symptoms at all, while others have very different symptoms. It can range from coughing, loss of smell and taste, to fatigue and fever.
FITBOOK provides an overview of the symptoms officially classified for corona disease by the Federal Ministry of Health. IMPORTANT: Signs of corona infection may vary by individual case. B. (also) affects the digestive tract. This is especially the case for sick children. The following symptoms can also occur with a cold or flu. So it is not always meaningful.
Gastrointestinal problems are concentrated.
To date, complaints affecting the gastrointestinal tract have not been included in the particularly common corona symptoms. According to Canadian studies, it may be wrong. At the University of Alberta, 36 studies were analyzed to observe gastrointestinal symptoms of Covid-19. According to this, about 18% of patients with Covid-19 had symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and rarely bloody stools. Some (16%) gastrointestinal problems are also listed as the only sign of coronavirus infection.
Coronavirus infections have been partially visible using imaging methods such as computed tomography (CT) and accidental findings in the context of abdominal or spinal examination. Visible abnormalities include, among other things, thickening of the intestinal wall or liquid stool.
The authors of the study point out that imaging experts may be involved in making a Covid 19 diagnosis based on gastrointestinal abnormalities, especially if other typical symptoms have not occurred.
Overview of other Covid 19 symptoms
- Fever above 38 degrees
- (Dry cough
- take on
- Headache and body aches
- Loss of smell and taste
- Delirium (-ium)-describes a state of mental confusion that can affect not only perception, but also behavior.

The most common symptoms of corona infection
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has compiled statistics on the symptoms that occur most frequently in the context of Covid-19 using data already available in Germany. Three of them were focused.
- Cough -Obviously, it is the most important indicator of coronavirus. Symptoms occur with a frequency of about 45%.
- Fever -The second most common corona symptom. According to the RKI, 38% of patients are affected.
- take on Apparently it has about 20% sick. A smaller number of patients (15%) lost their sense of smell and taste at least temporarily as part of the corona infection.

Children often have different symptoms
Adults and children can infect each other. Nevertheless, the possible Covid 19 disease in children is often different; researchers at Queen’s University Belfast recently came to this conclusion as part of an observational study of 68 children aged 2 to 15 years. The results are published in the journal “The BMJ”.
The most common symptoms of corona in children are:
- Gastrointestinal disease, Especially diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal cramps
- Skin rash
Those in charge of the study specifically ask for gastrointestinal problems that should be included in the official list of symptoms. If parents experience these symptoms in their children, they should not send them to school and observe the situation for at least 48 hours.

Detecting corona symptoms-what to do?
Call your doctor by phone
In any case, consult your family doctor if you have symptoms or if your child develops symptoms. Please do not sit in the waiting room due to coughing and fever. Whether a targeted test for corona is ultimately useful and necessary is at the discretion of the doctor.
No complaints-can you still have corona?
Coronavirus infection is virtually asymptomatic. Then it was only infected with the SARS-CoV-2 pathogen, which did not necessarily cause symptoms. But be careful: you can still be contagious to others.
Be especially careful after contact with an infected person.
The risk of infection is particularly high if you have had physical contact with an identifiably infected person or have recently stayed in a so-called risk area, especially with a large number of corona infections. You can find an overview of current risk areas on the RKI website. Anyone returning from the country or region involved must undergo a mandatory corona test. This is the only way to stop the invisible spread of the pathogen in people who have no symptoms but are still infected.
So, go to yourself, consider which one of the above applies to you and act accordingly. However, if this is not the case, there is no serious reason to assume the infection in the first place, but of course it is not completely ruled out.

Don’t panic and listen!
The spread of coronavirus around the world will continue to dominate our daily lives in the near future. In the current situation, it is helpful to act carefully and, above all, be considerate of your fellow humans, making your own contribution to slowing the spread.
