Resistance to antifungal drugs against Candida albicans

Fluconazole B. Vaginalmykosen, an antifungal agent used to treat Candida infections, is used to alter the breeding pattern of Candida albicans so that the fungus is resistant to the drug.

The antifungal drug Fluconazole leads to drug resistance.

Vaginal yeast infections soon affect almost every woman. In most cases, short-term medication can eradicate the infection. However, in 5-10% of all women this infection is repeated many times.

In this case, if the external agent, such as suppositories or creams, that use the topical agent, clotrimazole, is no longer effective, your doctor will prescribe oral fluconazole, which is also used for serious systemic fungal infections.

But Fluconazole, discovered by German scientists at the University of Würzburg, can change the genetic material of the fungus that needs to be controlled. Until now, fungi that have grown asymptomatically by cell division can multiply sexually with other cells suddenly in the presence of fluconazole. However, this greatly increases resistance to drugs because fungal cells can now bind genetic material to mating. So, the new mushroom has the best resistance so that the drug can work less and less.

Anti Candida Capsules

Candida albicans is generally the causative agent of vaginal yeast infection.

Yeast fungus Candida albicans also live in a condition where the skin, digestive system or genital area are healthy without symptoms. Only when several factors are present can the mold grow suddenly and cause typical symptoms. In the case of vaginal yeast infections, these are itching and secretions. Cause factors include:

  • Drying of the mucosa,
  • Hormone imbalance,
  • Tolerance of pills or other hormonal contraceptives
  • Excess sugar in the diet,
  • diabetes,
  • stress,
  • The weakened immune system,
  • Undeserved

However, these causes are largely affected (non-hormonal contraception, dietary changes, deoxidation, strengthening body armor, etc.). Therefore, chronic fungal infections can be avoided in many cases. However, doctors rarely advise on this, and because they usually only prescribe common antifungal agents, there is always endless pain in women because they are not effective here.

Candida albicans simply pumps it back.

In early 2019, researchers at Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg could show that the fungus Candida albicans began to remove fluconazole drugs and no longer work. However, this can be particularly fatal in cases of systemic fungal infections (such as fungal infections that can affect the whole body, for example, in immunosuppressed people) because the infection can also be fatal.

The alteration of the breeding mode described above is just one of many mechanisms by which Candida albicans attempts to protect itself from drugs. This mold can now develop a so-called transport pump to release the drug out of the cell.

Professor Joachim Morschhäuser of the Institute for Molecular Biology explains:

"Treatment of fluconazole in a very resistant Candida albicans strain fails because it already uses a combination of several defense mechanisms."

Natural remedies for fungal infections

Of course, I would like to develop new antifungal agents using newly discovered knowledge. From a holistic point of view, the body does not use drugs to strengthen and alleviate less threatening fungal infections such as vaginal fungi, as described above, and slows down the resistance and its effects. It can actually cause serious infections.
