The service testing provided to women who inherited the genes at high risk for breast cancer was stopped for several months at St James' s Hospital in Dublin.
Actress Angelina Jolie, who received the test, recently received a double mastectomy to prevent breast cancer.
A hospital spokeswoman said family risk services have been shut down since April because of the need for a mammogram for a patient with symptoms.
She says she has recently been funded to replace a mammography machine and purchase a third of what could be released early next year. This will help alleviate the delays experienced by patients waiting for mammograms.
