The Italian Association for Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma has held the first meeting of AIL on the relationship between sports activities and blood cancer, "Fighting Leukemia … Also Meeting with Lo Sport" ; Facilitate access to sports of adults and children suffering from blood cancer and to overcome cultural and practical barriers to improve quality of life.

Exercise is a potent drug with antitumor activity. Epidemiologic studies have already proven that physical activity continues to be a preventive factor in some blood cancers. Some studies indicate that participating in exercise-related programs is the strategy that has the greatest impact on improving the quality of life of patients with blood cancer in both adult and pediatric age groups. But a study of thousands of patients showed that sports movements prolong survival and reduce disease progression and recurrence.

However, despite the scientific evidence, only a few of the patients with blood cancer who have been diagnosed with the disease are engaged in sports activities with the continuity and strength needed to achieve several benefits. There are still important cultural and practical barriers that do not make physical exercise accessible to patients who should be regarded as medical – athletic – a kind of medicine for oncology and oncologists. Exercise Oncology is considered a new sub-field in oncology in many clinical studies, mainly in North America and Northern Europe. The General Assembly will be held at the Salus Theater in Fiera di Roma Hall 9 on Sunday, November 11, 2018, from 10.00 to 13.30.
