CAIRO – Seven kidnappers were killed Friday in a shootout on a bus in Minya, south of Cairo, in the first attack targeting the Coptics since the end of December 2017.
In a statement by the Egyptian Public Prosecutor's Office, he said that he was "notified of a shootout targeting a bus carrying the group of clans returning from the Monastery of Anba Sámuel" in Minya province.
Bishop of Minya, Abba Makarios, said the attack killed seven martyrs and 14 wounded, each of Sheikh Fadl's hospitals in Bani Mazar, south of Cairo.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi condemned the victims of the attack on a tweet on Twitter, saying, "I was very sad to hear the martyrs who have flooded today to undermine the cohesion alliance of their country … I wish to quickly restore the wounded and reaffirm our commitment to combating black terrorism and to prosecute perpetrators ".
The DPP has announced that its team will be sent to the test site.
This was the first attack on the Coptic since December 2017 when nine members of the Islamic State died in the southern suburbs of Helwan.
The year 2017 was bloody for Copts, representing 10 percent of Egyptian 100 million people who were subjected to bloody attacks that killed more than 100 people and dozens of wounded.
