Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, etc., took first place in their first F1 practice session in a very tightly coordinated new season on the Australian GP weekend.

Mercedes and Ferrari were split into tenths of a second, and Max Berstadpen re-occupied a tenth of Red Bull.

Hamilton's 1: 23.599 face-time is 0.038 seconds faster than Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, and Charles Leclerc is the third team mate.

Kimi Raikkonen was the sixth fastest-rising player on the Alfa Romeo team and Daniil Kvyat was the seventh-best player to Toro Rosso.

But Williams' anticipated struggle for the early seasons stood naked in Practice 1 as two cars took more than four seconds to pace.

After the team's test program postponed, the technical Patdy Lowe was shut down and Williams finished 19th and 20th in the opening session.

Meanwhile, Toro Rosso's rookie Alex Albon has become the first driver to break through the barriers of the new season. The British-born driver broke the front wing of his car, but was able to return to the team's pit box.
