Swift Beef Co. recovers large quantities of ground beef in at least five states due to possible contamination with E. coli O157: H7 according to the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the US Department of Agriculture.
"This problem was discovered on November 15, 2018 when FSIS visited Swift Beef Co. (Hyrum, UT) in response to FSIS beef samples collected at a later processing facility. E. Coli O157: H7," Recall status .
"FSIS has confirmed that the Swift Beef Company is the sole source of beef products, and the affected products were retrieved on November 16th and information on the recall (Majestic Meat) can be found here."
All recalled beef has a restaurant number "EST". 628 "is printed on the packaging inside the USDA Inspection Mark. Swift Beef Co. is responsible for additional processing and food service of recalled beef to distributors for use in institutions in California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington The recalled beef was produced on October 24.
The products to be recalled are as follows.
- 2,000 lbs. – Quickly ground beef bulk pallets 81/19 (81% lean) Fine grind combo product code 42982.
- 8-10 lbs – plastic packed chunks of "blue ribbon BEEF". Ground beef 81/19 (81% slope) Rough mane bearing Product code 42410.
- 8-10 lbs – plastic packed lump of "blue ribbon BEEF" ground beef 93/07 (93% slope) rough mane bearing Product Code 42413.
- 8-10 lbs – Plastic packed chunks of "Blue Ribbon BEEF" Beef 85/15 (85% slope) coarse grinds Product Code 42415.
- 8-10 lbs – lump of "Blue Ribbon BEEF" wrapped in plastic ribbon. 73/27 (73% slope) rough mane bearing Product Code 42510.

Escherichia coli O157: H7 is a deadly bacterium that can cause dehydration, shedding diarrhea and abdominal cramps in 2-8 days (3-4 days on average) after exposure to organisms. Most people recover within a week, but some cause a type of renal failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). This condition can occur regardless of age, but it is most common in children under the age of five and elderly people. Easily bruised, tapered, and reduced in urine volume. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should seek emergency medical care immediately.
FSIS conducts recall validation on a regular basis to take action to notify the recall company of the recall and ensure that the product is no longer available to consumers. Where possible, retail distributors are posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
FSIS recommends all consumers to prepare fresh and frozen meat products safely and only consumes ground beef cooked at a temperature of 165 ° F.
